The protesters expressed their rejection of the agreement signed by the Jordanian National Electric Power Company, allowing it to import natural gas from the occupied territories in Palestine.
‘No to the agreement, Jordan should not be the enemy’s door for gas and electricity exports,’ declared the protesters organized by the so-called National Campaign to Abolish the Import Agreement with the Zionist Regime.
For Muhamad al-Absi, one of the activists, the agreement signed five years ago is ‘catastrophic’, because it turns the kingdom into a pawn of the regime of Israel.
This agreement will give Israel a tool for blackmail, he said.
The Government of Jordan alleges that the agreement satisfied a national economic interest, since it saves millions of dollars.
Jordan was the second Arab country after Egypt to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, following a peace treaty signed in 1994, although the majority of Jordanians were against such ties.
