Belarus denounces US blockade against Cuba at UN

United Nations, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei on Monday denounced the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, at the 76th plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly.

‘We support the brother people of Cuba who have suffered from an unjust blockade for many years, due to the policy of a single State,’ said Makei, who acknowledge the impact of such measures on tourism, the banking sector, private enterprises and food safety.

The Belarusian foreign minister warned about the proliferation of the use of unilateral coercive measures by the West, as a method to exert pressure on countries whose forms of government are not in accordance with its political and economic interests.

In this sense, he denounced the use of alleged violations of human rights and the lack of democracy as instruments to justify such interference, which affects peoples and nations.

‘Human rights have become a dangerous toy in the hands of politicians, and a tool to attack countries that are not to the liking of the European Union,’ he stated.

The head of Belarusian diplomacy expressed Minsk’s concern about the increase in sanctions against his country, which, he said, is being the victim of a hybrid warfare by the West.

In his opinion, in addition to the serious health and economic consequences caused by Covid-19, the world is characterized today by the increase in imperial crisis, the effort by some to impose their socioeconomic models, and the rise of confrontation and the terrorism.

He stressed that such a situation is totally alien to the harmony to which peoples aspire, which is why he called on the countries to unite around the UN, which with its coordination capacity should lead the fight against these problems.
