Supporters of former president accused of failed coup in Sudan

Khartoum, Sep 23 (Prensa Latina) Supporters of deposed former Sudanese president Omar al Bashir, including high-ranking politicians and military personnel, appear today as the main suspects of instigating the failed coup in the African country.

Politicians are the main cause of coups because they neglect citizens and are busy fighting to stay in power, Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, vice president of the Sovereign Transitional Council said during a visit to a military base, according to official news agency SUNA.

The same source reported in a separate dispatch that ‘most of those involved (in the riots) are arrested, including 11 from the military’.

Last Tuesday troops from an armored unit tried to take over government buildings and the headquarters of the official media in this capital and in the city of Omdurmán, largest Sudanese city and an important commercial center; but were repelled.

Al Bashir was deposed by the Army in April 2019 after violent street protests due to the economic crisis that the country is going through, and is subject to an extradition request by the International Criminal Court to try him for war crimes.
