Salary gap between men and women increases in France

Paris, Sept 22 (Prensa Latina) The salary gap between men and women in responsible positions widened in France last year, according to a study published on Wednesday by the Association for the Employment of Executives (APEC).

Although, in general, the salary of executives of the private sector was stable in 2020, the average gross annual salary for men was 53,000 euros, while women earned 46,000 euros, according to the report.

This means a 15-percent gap, two points more than in 2019, which indicates that the wage restraint of high positions during the health crisis was applied in an inequitable way based on a gender criterion.

Moreover, based on ‘equivalent positions and profiles,’ male executives received 8 percent more than female ones, according to the document.

Finally, young people under 30 in responsible positions reported a reduction of 1,000 annual euros in their income because slightly less than half of them (48 percent) got a salary raise in 2020, compared to 62 percent in 2019.
