Lena Lopez, head of MINSAP’S National Vaccination Progra, explained that vaccination began on Monday in all Cuban provinces except for Havana and the Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth) special municipality.

Both territories will carry out this plan over the weekend, and next Monday it will be administered to health personnel.

Children who are allergic to thiomersal or thimerosal will be injected later, Lopez said, without specifying any date.

She explained that children will not be administered the Abdala vaccine (the first in the country and in Latin America) because it is undergoing a clinical trial.

People who finish their three-dose scheme with the Soberana 02 vaccine do not have to be injected with Abdala, because they are already immunized after 14 days, Lopez emphasized.

The expert, who called to trust the vaccines, called on people to keep the self-care measures, such as the use of facemasks, hand disinfection and physical distancing.
