Mélenchon met with the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González Llort, to assess the daily damage caused by the blockade, despite UN resolutions against it.
The French leader asked Llort how can by the LFI continue supporting the solidarity campaign towards the island, and assured that ‘the hatred of the powerful in the European Parliament will not be able to stop the fight for the end of the blockade and respect for the sovereign self-determination of the Cuban people.’
Christian Rodríguez, head of international relations at LFI, stated it is pitiful that in the face of ‘the warm welcome of the president of Cuba (Miguel) Díaz-Canel by the people and the president of Mexico,’ a new campaign of hatred against Cuba and its people is unleashed in Europe ‘by’ the extreme right together with the most reactionary sectors of the European Parliament.’
Rodríguez considered that ‘the sinister Vox party and the PP of Spain’ lead the ‘International of Hate’ against ‘the sovereign and free peoples that seek to put an end to neoliberalism’, and believe that by uniting ‘the most reactionary of the European Parliament against of Cuba, they will succeed in destroying what the Cuban people have fought for for more than 60 years,’ he said.
