Elections of deputies to Russian State Duma in progress

Moscow, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) The elections of deputies of the State Duma (Lower House of Parliament) of Russia end on Sunday.

The voting was set to last three days, from Friday until Sunday, in order to avoid the crowds of people.

To this end, the authorities promoted the use of remote electronic voting, which President Vladimir Putin, made use of, and was seen on television voting from a computer in his office.

Aleksei Benediktov, at the head of the public office for the observation of the votes in Moscow, pointed out that until 08:00, local time, on Saturday, the vote in Moscow exceeded 23 percent of the registered voters, taking into account online votes.

The official explained that 6.9 percent (534 thousand people) voted using ballots in the polling stations, while 63.1 percent (1,271,000) voted online.

The president of the Central Electoral Commission, Ella Pamfilova, said for her part that using this means around 260 thousand people in Russia voted in advance and another 34 thousand citizens did so from 46 countries.

Up until July 1st, 108,145,648 voters in Russia and around 2,060,000 abroad were registered to participate in the elections.
