Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, told Youm7 that the restoration of 12 columns of the Great Hypostyle Hall was completed, and their original engravings and colors, among them blue and yellow, which disappeared hundreds of years ago, are already shown.
Built during the 19th dynasty and located in the heart of the Karnak Temple Complex, the construction stands out for its 134 richly decorated columns. Mostly have a height of 15 meters, but the 12 columns in its central nave rise up to 21 meters.
With 2,700 meters long, the Avenue of Sphinxes connects the temples of Karnak and Luxor, where the annual pilgrimage of the god Amon-Ra passed in ancient Egypt.
Although with the passing of the years, many of the statues were removed or were buried under the new buildings of the city, the avenue is one of the best preserved pharaonic roads.
