Women star in third day of Timbalaye Festival in Cuba

Havana, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) Women star in the third day of the 13th edition of the Timbalaye Festival 2021 with a representation of Cuban female artists as an evidence that they do sing rumba.

The statement is expressed in the song by the ‘Team Cuba de la Rumba,’ an initiative that promotes this traditional music in the Cuban sound panorama to make visible women’s incursion in a scenario that has been exclusively of men.

The Ministry of Culture’s official YouTube channel, Cuban television’s Canal Clave and StreamingCuba broadcast the performances by Afroamerica, Thelmary y Habana Sana, Brenda Navarrete, the Tumba Francesa Los Bejucos group and a concert by Obini Bata.

The event, which will extend its virtual programs until September 17, offers concerts, book launches, interviews and theoretical exchanges by rumba specialists and artists in Cuba.

This musical genre, emerged in Cuba during the 19th century, has been declared UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2016.
