Lukashenko warns of increased dangers of using force

Dushanbe, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) Rising global tension creates risks that might spark conflicts which could lead to the use of force, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko warned on Thursday during the summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

Addressing the session of the CSTO’s Collective Security Council, held in Dushanbe, the president said that the international situation has worsened and denounced that the principles and international regulations continue to be flagrantly disregarded.

According to Lukashenko, the growth of the global military spending and the dismantling of the arms control system are alarming challenges, Belta news agency informed.

The Belarusian leader warned of ‘a dangerous trend’ linked to the increase in the capabilities of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces and their allies in the vicinity of the CSTO’s western borders.

CSTO’s heads of State and Government are discussing current international and regional security issues in Dushanbe on Thursday. The impact of the Afghan conflict and the possible threats to the region focus the meeting.
