Xuan Phuc’s presence in Cuba will also be a demonstration of Vietnam’s policy to strengthen relations with its traditional friends and priority partners, the official told reporters.
On Wednesday, the ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries informed that the Vietnamese head of State, leading a high-level delegation, will begin a three-day official visit to Cuba on Saturday, September 18, at the invitation of his counterpart and First Secretary of the Communist Party, Miguel Diaz-Canel.
Giang said that the two leaders, in the spirit of fraternity that distinguishes the ties between the two nations and peoples, will head the official talks, focused on strengthening trade and cooperation in areas of common interest, including the containment of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Xuan Phuc, 67, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam, was Prime Minister from 2016 to 2021, when by a unanimous vote at the National Assembly, he was elected President of the country for the 2021-2026 term.
