CSTO agrees to strengthen southern borders

Dushanbe, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) The Heads of State and Government of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) agreed to strengthen the southern borders of the member countries of the alliance.

At the closing of the Collective Security Council meeting, the President of Tajikistan Emomalí Rajmón said that they also decided to continue planning and implementing new measures to reduce and neutralize potential threats in the organization’s space.

The leaders analyzed the situation in Afghanistan and the danger posed to neighboring countries by an overflow of the internal conflict in the country out of its territorial limits.

After the summit, the leaders adopted a joint declaration and signed an agreement of jurisdiction and legal assistance on the temporary presence of forces and military equipment in the territories of the CSTO member states.

According to the statement, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan consider it unacceptable that some states use terrorist and extremist organizations for the exercise of their own geopolitical interests.

The document stressed the importance of cooperation at the bilateral, regional and global levels, under the coordination leadership of the United Nations, in order to increase the effectiveness of the fight against such dangers.

The CSTO reaffirmed that its interaction in the political-military field is not directed against third countries and other international organizations, but that it exclusively serves the interests of guaranteeing the security of the member states.
