The decision, taken by the national coordinators, was ratified at the 21st Meeting of Foreign Ministers that took place on July 24th at the Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City, within the framework of the commemoration of the 238th anniversary of the birth of Simón Bolívar.
The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, raised in the meeting the topic of interest of having CELAC promote unity in the continent and strengthen the negotiating capacity of the region against other economic blocs, as well as with United States and Canada.
The heads of State and/or Government who will attend the meeting will decide their new pro tempore president, since Mexico has held it since the beginning of 2020 since the meeting in that year had to be suspended due to the propagation of the pandemic. So far the only candidate is Argentina.
