On Wednesday, gas prices reached some 970 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters, which triggered alarms, TASS news agency reported.
The official said that the demand for gas in Europe is high because it is not yet clear what kind of winter the region will experience in a little more than two months.
He recalled that the colder it gets, the more gas will be needed to face the period from December to February.
Peskov warned that Russia is not involved in what has happened with prices, taking into account that these values do not affect those of pipeline-supplied gas.
He explained that consumers of the latter are not subject to such high volatility, because in that case the amount is calculated by a different formula.
The price of gas contracts for October reached 966.35 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters on Wednesday, according to the Title Transfer Facility (TTF) center of the Netherlands, the most important in the world.
