As explained by UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, Tawfik Jelassi, this initiative on AI governance will help ‘rapid advances in this field contribute to safeguarding human rights and sustainable development.’

The statement also noted that the new portal will offer the general public and decision-makers and policy makers, ‘data, studies, examples of use and good practices, providing a neutral access point to the resources of like-minded organizations that underline their cooperation.’

UNESCO also clarified that the project had the cooperation of seven international institutions (United Nations, Council of Europe, European Commission, EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, Inter-American Development Bank, World Bank and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), who worked in different fields of AI.
