During his speech at the Bellevue Palace, the German president asked to clarify the role of government institutions from 1933 till Hitler´s death and also to bring hidden truths out into the open.
Many things remain in darkness, the one that were not clarified or told, said Steinmeier, who commissioned Professor Norbert Freide to dig into this issue and define German bodies´ involvement.
Decades of scientific research and historical revaluation went off, but not all stories or crimes are known, nor was an adequate tribute paid to all victims, Steinmeier stated.
The politician assured that it is his duty as President to reveal the hidden data and to openly and critically address Germany’s past.
In addition, he stressed that all state-run agencies may have a great number of details about the Nazis and victims.
