Israel Defense Forces (IDF) noted in a statement that the attacks targeted the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which controls this coastal enclave of two million inhabitants.

The army justified its umpteenth attack on the overcrowded area by noting that it was in response to the firing of homemade rockets by Hamas against Israel.

In recent weeks, clashes have occurred along the border line, where hundreds of Palestinians gathered almost every day at sunset to denounce the blockade Tel Aviv has imposed on that territory since 2007.

The new fire exchange comes after Hamas’ warning to the occupation authorities for the repression in prisons against thousands of Palestinians held in those facilities.

Both authorities and the Palestinian parties accused Israel of adopting punitive measures against more than 4,500 compatriots detained in Israel in revenge for the prisoners’ escape last Monday.

Six Palestinians escaped from the Gilboa maximum security prison, known as ‘the safe’ because of its presumed inviolability.
