Similarity of Biden-Trump policy towards Cuba considered shameful

Havana, (Prensa Latina) U.S. activist Brian Becker called shameful that the president of his country, Joe Biden, continues so far with the same reactionary policy of his predecessor, Republican Donald Trump, regarding Cuba.

A policy that was explicitly designed to annul the diplomatic opening between the two countries, initiated during the administration of Democrat Barack Obama, of which Biden was vice president, expressed in an interview with Prensa Latina the founder and director of the ANSWER anti-war coalition.

He said that maintaining the 243 additional coercive measures imposed by Trump during his term (2017-2021) ‘should be understood for what they are: a form of collective punishment, designed to deprive Cubans of food, medicine and what is necessary to sustain life in modern societies.’

The tactic of collective punishment against an entire people was typical of those employed by the Nazis during World War II (1939-1945), and was condemned in the Nuremberg Trials (1945-1946) as a crime against humanity, Becker said.

The whole world, with the exception of the United States and Israel, insists on an immediate end to the blockade on Cuba, the Caribbean nation must be allowed to participate in the world economy, he stressed.

Our slogan ‘Let Cuba Live’, already popular in the United States, especially after the publication (in July) of a major advertisement in The New York Times with the same theme, represents the central position of the ANSWER coalition, he said.

The Answer coalition was born on September 14, 2001, just three days after the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
