European plastic manufacturers in favor of recycling

Brussels, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) European plastic manufacturers are in favor of the obligation to bring 30 percent of recycling into packaging by 2030.

The measure will respect the so-called Green Pact of the European Commission (EC).

PlasticsEurope said in a statement that producers are pleased with the review of directives on packaging and packaging waste.

It is a key European legislation for the transition of the plastics sector towards a circular economy. PlasticsEurope is the European pressure group of plastics manufacturers, which brings together a hundred companies that produce more than 90 percent of polymers in the continent.

The commitment is based on the development of chemical recycling of plastic, where the European industry plans to invest 7.2 billion euros from now until 2030.

The investment will go to new technologies and facilities allowing the production of 3.4 million tons of chemically recycled plastic per year.
