According to the Twitter account of the Presidency, Diaz-Canel toured the neighborhood, located in the people’s council of El Carmelo, in Plaza de la Revolucion municipality, where the population is mobilized with support from the Ministry of Communications to solve the problems that affect them.
El Fanguito is one of 62 communities included in a comprehensive plan of transformations encouraged by the Cuban government and involving agencies from the central administration of the State, together with citizens, in actions such as housing improvements, maintenance and conservation. According to a Facebook post by the Municipal People’s Power Assembly in Plaza de la Revolucion, so far, they have carried out hydraulic improvements, installed public telephones, built sidewalks and paved some streets.
Diaz-Canel was accompanied by Communications Minister Mayra Arevich, government and Communist Party authorities from the municipality and the province, as well as community representatives.
The president also met with local residents and discuss what has been done and the issues that remain to be solved in order to provide a better quality of life to the neighborhood.
