Both parties highlighted the mutual efforts and achievements made in the fields of health, construction, physical planning and fishing, which will serve to promote and finalize new agreements to strengthen economic and commercial relations between both nations.

The Working Group session, which opened virtually on Wednesday, was chaired by the deputy minister of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia, Jenelly Matundu, and the deputy minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, Deborah Rivas, who reaffirmed the historic ties between the two governments and peoples. The meeting will identify new cooperation and business potentialities, which contribute to materializing new and varied initiatives so that commercial and collaboration relations reach the excellent level of policies, Rivas said.

For her part, the Namibian official praised the Cuban people’s resistance in the face of the tightening of the United States blockade and all its consequences on the economic and social life of the country amid the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the achievement by national vaccines to fight the disease caused by the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus.

Matundu stressed that Cuba’s firmness and solidarity is admired throughout the world, hence Namibia supports the proposal for the Nobel Peace Prize for the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics, and will demand at the United Nations General Assembly the immediate and absolute elimination of the blockade.

The two delegations exchanged information on the actions developed to monitor the economic and social effects of Covid-19, especially those focused on strengthening the respective health systems.
