Myanmar’s parallel government calls for national uprising

Naypyidaw, Sep 7 (Prensa Latina) The parallel government of Myanmar, formed by opponents to the military government, called on Tuesday for a national uprising against the junta, and favored actions by armed militias and ethnic forces, as well as a a labor strike.

The interim president of the so-called National Unity Government, Duwa Lashi La, said that his cabinet declared a state of emergency.

Military-appointed official should ‘immediately leave their posts,’ said La, who urged members of the security forces to join them and ethnic militias in border areas to attack the military.

Myanmar’s military overthrew the elected government on February 1, sparking a wave of protests and thousands of deaths as security forces tried to quell the demonstrations.

Coup leader Min Aung Hlaing assumed the role of prime minister in a newly formed interim government last month and pledged to hold new elections by 2023.

Officially, the junta labels the National Unity Government and the People’s Defense Forces as terrorist groups.
