The Palestinian National Authority is still waiting for Biden to start implementing his electoral promises regarding the Palestinian issue, the official stressed.
Shtayyeh assured in an interview with Palestine TV that the recent meeting in Washington between the Israeli Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, and the US president did not bring any concrete results, and urged the White House to reaffirm its commitment to create a Palestinian state and preserve the status quo in East Jerusalem.
‘We spoke with the US administration about the need for Israel to comply with the agreements signed with the Palestinians, as well as the cessation of the aggression against our people and the Jewish colonization,’ he said.
However, the official stressed they are ‘still waiting for a response’ from Washington.
Regarding last week’s meeting between the president of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, and the Israeli head of Defense, Benny Gantz, he stressed that it was the first of such a high level in 11 years. Abbas leads an offensive with the backing of several Arab countries to try to persuade the International Quartet, made up of the United Nations, the United States, Russia and the European Union, on the Middle East peace process to present a new dialogue initiative.
