Costa Rica welcomes first gold medal in Paralympic Games history

San Jose, Sep 4 (Prensa Latina) From President Carlos Alvarado to the local media today highlight the first gold medal for Costa Rica in the Paralympic Games, a heroic feat achieved by sprinter Sherman Guity in Tokyo 2020.

In Facebook Alvarado wrote ‘We are deeply proud and pleased to see you with the Costa Rican flag. We are waiting for you with your two Paralympic medals! And again: you’re great Sherman, you’re great,’ wrote the Costa Rican president.

Meanwhile, local media dedicated their main columns to Guity’s performance in Tokyo, where he had already won the first medal (silver) for his country in these games, when he came in second the 100 meters T64 category.

In its Facebook profile, the Costa Rican National Olympic Committee praised Guity’s performance and emphasized: ‘You did it and we are proud of you. Thank you for making Costa Rica vibrate and write its name high’.

On August 25, 2017 an accident on the General Cañas Highway changed the life of the Costa Rican sprinter, because due to the seriousness of the event he had to have a large part of his left leg amputated.

Only a month later he began his preparation as a parathlete, an effort crowned today with that gold medal and record in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
