Meteorological phenomenon DANA wreaks havoc in Spain

Madrid, Sep 3 (Prensa Latina) An isolated depression at high levels of the atmosphere known as DANA caused great damage in much of Spain, with torrential rains and lightning.

Although DANA, which is a natural phenomenon that occurs on the threshold of autumn and spring each year, was anticipated this year, everything indicates that this Friday it significantly decreased in intensity.

Likewise, 14 of the 17 regions of the country raised the alert just a few hours ago for the risk of intense rainfall in the center, north and in particular, east and northeast of the country.

DANA is caused by the collision of an elevated layer of cold air with warm air from the surface, along with high humidity.

Cars overturned in the middle of the road, flooded houses and people rescued in extremis as they rolled dragged by the water, were among others the consequences of the rains.

There were also some fires due to lightning strikes with extensive damage that from today will be evaluated by the authorities and insurance companies.

The emergency services had to work tirelessly to deal with the numerous incidents, such as tunnels and garages filled with water, electricity and drinking water cuts, isolated people and trapped vehicles.

According to specialized agencies, DANA brought no less than 41,000 lightning strikes and record of rainfall in some areas.
