Palestinian president arrives in Egypt, to try to reactivate talks

Cairo, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Egypt on Thursday amid Israel's refusal to negotiate and stop the Israeli colonization in the West Bank, despite Egypt's attempts to reactivate talks.

Abbas was received at the airport by the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi, Wafa news agency informed.

The visit comes amid Cairo’s efforts to achieve that the two sides negotiate, although Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett made it clear last week that this will not happen.

Chief of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel visited Israel and Palestine on August 18.

Kamel first met with Abbas, with whom he discussed bilateral issues and the ways to achieve stability and peace in the region, then he went to Tel Aviv, where he was received by Bennett and later by Defense Minister Benny Gantz.

More than 250 people were killed in Palestine between May 10 and 21, as a result of the Israel Defense Forces airstrikes, in which some 1,500 homes were destroyed and a similar number were irreparably damaged.
