In a message posted on Twitter, the president welcomed the 76th anniversary of the date in which Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Hanoi’s Ba Dinh Square.
‘We congratulate the brother people of #Vietnam on National Day this September 2. On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of that courageous nation’s independence, we ratify the unwavering decision to continue developing our historic ties of friendship and cooperation,’ Diaz-Canel wrote.
Diaz-Canel greeted the date on Wednesday in messages sent to Nguyen Phu Trong, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
For his part, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero conveyed Pham Minh Chinh, head of the Vietnamese Government, the willingness to continue developing the bilateral and multisectoral cooperation, according to the priorities and potentialities existing in both nations.
Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez stated the same opinion in a letter sent to his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son.
Although the date commemorates the proclamation of the Declaration of Independence, the nation fought 30 other years to defeat the US troops’ invasion and achieve the country’s reunification on April 30, 1975.
