According to statements made by BioCubaFarma President Eduardo Martinez, the production of Cuba’s own vaccines is going very well and it is expected by September that a little more than 90 percent of the Cubans will have at least the first dose.
This process depends on the yields of the batches that are coming out, Martinez said, and explained that some production problems occurred with the Soberana vaccines, developed by the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV), partly due to the impact of the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
He affirmed that a high percentage of the population will have completed the vaccination scheme (three doses) by October, and almost all inhabitants (approximately 11,300,000) should be vaccinated by November.
Children aged three years and older, as well as people who had an allergic reaction to thimerosal and those convalescing from Covid-19 will be immunized.
