Zambia’s president replaces military and police chiefs

Lusaka, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema on Monday announced changes in this African country's top military and police leadership to make these sectors more operative, according to the national interests.

According to an official communique, after former chiefs appointed to several positions dismissed, the president appointed Major General Denis Alibuzwi as new Army Commander and Brigadier General Collin Barry as new Air Force Commander.

Brigadier General Patrick Solochi, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, was appointed as new Zambian National Service Commandant, while former Lusaka Province Commissioner of Police Lemmy Kajoba, who was retired in 2015, has been appointed as new Inspector General of Police.

President Hichilema, who took office as head of State on August 24, reiterated in a recent speech his call that security forces in this state respect people’s freedoms and human rights.

Hichilema, who leads the ruling Party for National Development, promised during the inauguration ceremony in Lusaka to work determinedly to revitalize the country’s economy, which is going through a deep crisis with high unemployment, especially in the youth sector.
