Radical headquarters in the neighborhoods of Daraa al-Balad, al-Mukhayam and Tarik al-Sad were the target of intense attacks with rockets and heavy machine guns, local media informed.
The resumption of the offensive followed the failure of negotiations between the Army and the so-called ‘Central Committees’ representing the illegal armed groups and the latter’s rejection to an arrangement to pacify the area by deploying the army, establishing state institutions and handing over weapons and terrorists.
Daraa was liberated from terrorism in the summer of 2018 after a Russian-sponsored reconciliation in which the extremists surrendered their mid and heavy weapons.
Tense situation prevails in this province due to the rejection of the remnant terrorist groups to the reconciliation and their attacks that killed 250 army and police members, 19 mayors and 115 civilians, as well as injured about 500 civilians and soldiers.
