Due to the blockade, economic sanctions, the ‘criminal’ Caesar Law and the worsening of the economic situation in neighboring Lebanon, there are serious problems with gas and oil byproduct imports, according to a senior Ministry official.
He pointed out that before the war, Syria exported gas and oil, but acts of sabotage and US occupation of gas fields made Syria need to import two-thirds of its demand.
The United States and its allies, particularly Israel, have gone further in their economic war against Syria by increasing attacks on the high seas on oil tankers, according to press reports.
Prime Minister Hussein Arnous noted that oil tankers bound for Syria have been attacked or intercepted on the high seas to worsen the hydrocarbon crisis, generated by economic sanctions and the occupation of more than 90 percent of Syria’s territory.
