This was one of the worst days in the face of the pandemic since the outbreak of the disease just four months ago, with the exception of last Sunday, when deaths reached an unprecedented level of 737.
The Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 ruined the magnificent results of the Indochinese nation against the deadly virus.
Until April 27, Vietnam had only registered 3,428 infected with the disease and 35 deaths from its cause, so that only today’s figures quintupled the cases and more than tenfold the deaths.
The statistics are more shocking if you consider that in these four months the infected multiplied by almost 120 and the deaths by 287.
Southern Ho Chi Minh City is the territory most affected by the fourth wave of the disease with 199,483 cases (48.6 percent of the total) and 7,965 deaths (79.2 percent of the accumulated).
In that, the most populous city in Vietnam, and the neighboring province of Binh Duong, unprecedented confinement measures are in force: people’s only contacts with the rest of the country are to receive material and health aid, and people can only leave their houses for reasons of great necessity.
In almost all Vietnamese localities, including this capital, other measures are in force to contain the virus, although not as rigorous.
