Cuba’s epidemiological situation described as complex

Havana, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Public Health Ministry today reported 8,509 new cases of Covid-19 in the country, a figure that evidences a complex epidemiological situation.

Speaking on Cuban television, the national director of Epidemiology, Francisco Duran, said that of the 49,597 active cases in the country, 49,146 are clinically stable.

Meanwhile, 451 patients are being treated in intensive care, 314 in serious condition and 137 in critical condition.

From March 2020 to date, 619,672 citizens have fallen ill with SARS-CoV-2 in Cuba.

Regarding pediatric cases, he commented that 1,816 were detected in the last hours, among them 135 children under one year old and 59 under six months old.

In the last 15 days, 26,157 infants fell ill at a rate of 1,744 per day, said Durán.

The specialist reported that 9,746 medical discharges were granted to patients who suffered from Covid-19, and now the number of recovered patients has risen to 565,116.

Duran regretted the death of 96 people in the last hours, bringing the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 4,902. The epidemiologist specified that 12.852 801 doses of the Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala vaccines were administered in the Caribbean island through health intervention mechanisms, intervention studies and clinical trials.
