House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) said that in a 220-212 party-line vote, the chamber passed a $3.5 trillion budget resolution and advanced a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill.
Both bills were already passed by the Senate, but were stalled for two-day time due to Democrats´ backlashes over strategies to carry out the two packages.
Moderate lawmakers, led by Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), advocated voting on the infrastructure bill before beginning process to reshape social and environmental programs.
‘These negotiations are never easy,’ said Jim McGovern, member of the now-in-government party and chair of the Rules Committee, in comments collected by the Bloomberg news site.
Internal disagreements among Democrats portend how hard it will be for the Blue Party to stick together to make its political goals into law in coming weeks as they seek to show voters their ability to govern, The New York Times said.
