The decision was made known by Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra at a press conference.
‘Algeria has decided to break off diplomatic relations with Morocco starting today,’ Lamamra said.
Lamamra said that the breaking of diplomatic relations is due to ‘a context of long hostile acts by Rabat against Algeria.’
The announcement comes nearly a week after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune told a meeting of Algeria´s High Security Council that Morocco’s incessant hostile actions on Algeria have meant the need for a revision in relations between the two countries and the tightening of security checks at the western borders with Morocco.’
