The number of Covid-19 cases in Cuba remains high

Havana, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Monday reported 9,320 new Covid-19 cases and 74 deaths, figures that remain high due to the predominance of the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, health authorities reported.

At his daily press conference on television, the National Director of Epidemiology, Dr. Francisco Duran, reported that 10 of the new cases are imported, while the rest are due to local transmission, so the total number of cases rose to 592,619.

One of the fatal victims on Monday was a pregnant woman, Duran said, and the death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country has risen to 4,618.

Some 4.8 percent of the new cases reported were asymptomatic. Since the outbreak of this disease, 115,244 patients without symptoms have been reported.

The number of 1,847 minor patients (under 18 years of age), including 140 children under one year of age, was concerning.

Pinar del Rio province is the most affected territory, with 2,042 cases in the past hours, followed by Cienfuegos, with 1,397, and Havana, with 900.

Cuba has had a pandemic incidence rate of 1,198.1 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 15 days.
