Syrian Army opens humanitarian corridor in the south of the country

Damascus, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian military opened today a safe corridor to help civilians depart from residential areas dominated by terrorist groups in the province of Deraa, about 100 kilometers south of Damascus.

In the face of the radicals’ refusal to reconcile and the army’s irreversible decision to liberate the area from terrorism the Saraya crossing was opened for people to leave the neighborhoods of Deraa Balad, Tarik Sad and Mukhayam where radical groups are entrenched, military sources told the official SANA news agency.

They added that one of the schools was transformed into an accommodation center to receive civilians, and equipped with all conditions by the provincial government and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

Similarly, the army set up a field hospital in the area with all the necessary medical equipment and supplies, ambulances and medical and nursing personnel.

On the other hand, the armed forces increased their checkpoints and positions to protect the road leading to the Nassib border crossing with Jordan against any terrorist threat.

Military sources consulted by Prensa Latina affirmed that the Syrian military is determined to launch the operation and liberate the area completely.

Deraa was supposedly cleared of terrorism in the summer of 2018 following a Russian-sponsored reconciliation process, in which the extremists surrendered their weaponry, while the rest moved out to the northern province of Idlib.
