Former ministers oppose impeachment of a judge in Brazil

Brasilia, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) At least 10 former ministers signed a manifesto against the removal petition promoted by President Jair Bolsonaro against Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes, media reported on Sunday.

According to G1 news website, the former ministers of Justice and Defense call on President of the Senate Rodrigo Pacheco to discard the impeachment petition against De Moraes, demanded by the President.

The signatories of the document were members of the administrations of Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Dilma Rousseff and Michel Temer.

Bolsonaro on Friday presented a cessation petition against De Moraes at the Senate, but that very same day the Supreme Federal Court (STF) issued a rejection note.

Bolsonaro demanded De Moraes’s removal because, on August 4, the judge ordered the inclusion of the president in an investigation into fake news.

The reason is the attacks made by Bolsonaro, a former army captain, on the electronic ballot box and the electoral system.
