Russia, France agree to work for peace in Afghanistan

Moscow, Aug 20 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed Afghanistan in phone call on Thursday, highlighting the significance of addressing protection of civilians and humanitarian issues in the country.

During the phone call, both leaders analyzed ‘in depth’ the present situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power, the Kremlin press service reported.

They expressed willingness to help establish peace and stability in Afghanistan through cooperation, including efforts within the framework of the UN Security Council and the G20.

In the dialogue, Putin and Macron expressed their deep concern about the round-the-clock tensions in southeastern Ukraine. According to the press release, Vladimir Putin drew attention to Kiev´s cataclysmic actions.

The press release noted that Ukraine ‘in recent times deliberately worsens the situation, in addition to countering rabble-rousing legislative initiatives that directly contradict the Minsk agreements.’

In this regard, both leaders stressed the significance of Kiev implementing all agreements reached; firstly those of Minsk in 2015 as ‘a unique base of the agreement’, the Kremlin statement said.

Plus, Putin and Macron spoke on account of continuing negotiations on the Iran Nuclear Agreement to resume the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), ‘which is an all-important factor for the nuclear non-proliferation,’ Moscow said.
