Resignation would spare New York governor of investigation

Washington, Aug 17 (Prensa Latina) The New York State Assembly decided to suspend the ongoing investigation for the impeachment process of Governor Andrew Cuomo when he leaves office next week, the media reported on Tuesday.

Despite repeatedly declaring himself innocent, the Democrat resigned due to the political scandal caused by sexual harassment allegations of at least 11 women.

The news from the legislature caused reactions among both its emocrat and Republican members.

Assemblyman from his same party, Ron Kim, said that he will continue to insist on the impeachment and considered that interrupting the investigation is defective reasoning.

If I steal from someone and I’m about to be indicted for the theft, I can’t dodge this indictment by returning what I stole as soon as I find out I’m about to be indicted, when I’m on the verge of being indicted. This is what is happening right now with Andrew Cuomo, he said.

The now discredited governor became one of the most popular politicians of the country last year after his confrontations with then President Donald Trump over the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
