Egypt, Japan’s officials discuss Middle East situation, cooperation

Cairo, Aug 17 (Prensa Latina) Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Japan's Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi discussed in Cairo several issues about the Middle East and others related to the bilateral cooperation, an official communique announced on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the situation in Afghanistan after the victory of the Taliban movement was also addressed during the meeting between the two leaders, held on Monday evening.

Both parties agreed on the importance of reaching political solutions to the crises that are shaking this region, the two leaders underlined.

Shortly before, the Japanese foreign minister met with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry, with whom he addressed the strengthening of bilateral relations and the situation in several Arab countries such as Libya and Palestine.

Motegi arrived in Cairo on Sunday as part of a tour that will also include Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Qatar and Turkey.
