Heatwave keeps Spain on tenterhooks with fires

Madrid, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) High temperatures continue on Monday in Spain, although with a downward trend, but the fires unleashed in the national territory keep the European country in suspense.

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge mobilized this weekend 40 aircraft, seven reinforcement brigades for forest fires and other auxiliary means on the ground.

According to the National Forest Fire Information Coordination Center, the situation is very dangerous at the moment and therefore all available means are required to neutralize the fires.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) announced that although the heatwave, which has brought thermometers to 46 degrees Celsius, will yield somewhat in the coming days, temperatures continue to exceed 34 degrees.

The AEMET put 16 provinces in red alert due to extreme risk of high temperatures in the last few hours, with records above 42 degrees.

The spectacular rise in thermometers is due to the eruption of a very hot air mass from North Africa. A consequence that the scientific community does not hesitate to associate with climate change.
