The Russian politician drew attention on a possible agreements between the Islamic State (IS) and the Taliban movement. ‘There is already an increase in the interest of the IS in Afghanistan and Central Asia, after its defeat in Syria and Iraq,’ he wrote on his Facebook account.
Kosachev recalled that there are guarantees by the Taliban that it will not attack the Central Asian countries, their representatives said during a press briefing held in Moscow on July 8.
‘The question is not even whether they can be trusted. The Taliban is, in principle, a Pashtun nationalist movement, whose tasks are generally limited to the Afghan territory, unlike the IS,’ he commented.
The lawmaker described the development of the conflict in Afghanistan as predictable after the withdrawal of US forces, ‘to which the term flight is more applicable,’ he pointed out. However, he considered that everything happened quickly.
Kosachev added that several towns voluntarily opened their doors to the Taliban to prevent civilian casualties.
On Sunday, their forces launched an offensive in all fronts towards Kabul.
