Former Israeli prime minister faces internal rebellion in his party

Tel Aviv, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) Former Prime Minister and opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu is currently facing a growing internal rebellion in his Likud party, The Times of Israel highlighted.

Several heavyweights of that far-right political party are frustrated and hope to replace Netanyahu, who ruled this country for 15 years, 12 of them uninterruptedly.

Likud lawmaker and former minister Israel Katz publicly attacked both Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz this week, blaming them for the coalition’s failure, which ended in June.

Then, the former head of Government refused to hand over his position to Gantz, as agreed in the alliance agreement, which precipitated the end of the Executive and forced to convene new elections.

Several high-ranking members of that political party expressed their displeasure with Netanyahu for leading them to the opposition, the newspaper stated.

On Tuesday, some of them were heard for the first time criticizing the former head of Government by estimating that he was a guilty of the political defeat and therefore, he must pay a heavy price, the publication underlines.
