Palestinian Government rejects expansion of Israeli settlements

Ramallah, Aug 12 (Prensa Latina) The Palestinian Government on Thursday denounced Israel's decision to build 2,000 new homes in the Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and stated that this action violates international treaties and it will cause more tension in the region.

This policy clearly violates the Oslo Accords, signed in 1993, which explicitly state that neither party should take unilateral measures, the presidential office stressed in a communiqué.

In addition, it ignores Resolution 2334 of the United Nations Security Council, adopted in 2016, which calls for the evacuation of the Israeli settlements from Palestinian lands, considering that ‘it has no legal validity and flagrantly violates international law,’ the communiqué noted.

Faced with this situation, the text calls on the United Nations and other international stakeholders to stop the Israeli expansionist strategy because it will only increase tension and instability in the region.

According to official Palestinian data, Israel has built more than 31,000 homes in the 144 settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and 139 other outposts for future settlements, since 2004. jg/iff/mem/rob
