On his Twitter account, the president described the message from the Cuban experts in an open letter to President Joseph Biden as forceful.
‘Cuba, using science, has been able, in an innovative and altruistic way, to face the challenges of #COVID19, in the very hard conditions imposed by the #US Blockade,’ he tweeted.
Biden referred to Cuba as a ‘failed state’ and discredited the ability of the national health and science system to meet the challenges posed by the pandemic.
In their letter, the Cuban scientists refuted these assumptions by the US administration, and mentioned arguments and figures supported by international organizations.
They also highlighted the role of the national immunization program created in 1962, which has protected the Cuban population against 13 potentially fatal diseases.
The scientists also praised the progress of immunization in the country and the efficacy of Cuban-made vaccines, and called to work together to face new challenges.
