The IATA published the ten major airlines globally, which are predominantly from the aforementioned countries, including four US and three Chinese companies.
Southwest Airlines ranks on top of the list, with nearly 67.8 million passengers in 2020.
China Southern Airlines is second, with 67.5 million, followed by American Airlines, 65.7 million; and China Eastern Airlines and Delta Air Lines, which closed the year with 61 and 55 million, respectively.
Ryanair, the undisputed leader in Europe, is sixth, with 51 million travelers, ahead of Air China (42.5 million), United Airlines (37.8), IndiGo (35.6) and Latam (27.7).
Only five European airlines are among the World’s Top 25. They are Turkish Airlines (27.2 million travelers), Easyjet (26.5), Air France (17), Wizzair (16.5) and Lufthansa (16.2).
Iberia and Air Europa, whose merger already depends solely and exclusively on the opinion of the European Union, are very far apart from competitors such as Air France and Lufthansa.
