When expressing its position to the Department of Political Affairs and Peace building of United Nations bureau, the DPRK permanent delegation noted that this policy ‘is the main obstacle not only for Cuba’s economic and social development, but also for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.’
It recalled that the UN General Assembly has demanded that the United States end all kinds of illegal and brutal economic blockades and unilateral coercive measures against Cuba.
In that sense, the DRPC requested the adoption of the resolution on ‘the necessity to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba’, presented for the twenty-ninth time on June 23, and overwhelming supported by the international community.
‘This is the expression of the firm and invariable solidarity of the international society with the Cuban people who are displaying an active struggle for justice and peace in the world,’ North Korea underlined.
However, despite repeated demands from the international community, aggressive and interventionist policies by the United States against Cuba and countries trying to maintain or establish economic, commercial and financial relations with Cuba is permanently and systematically intensified.
The DPRK condemned the coercive measures imposed by Washington on Cuba, which ‘in recent years have reached a number of more than 240’, and repudiated that many were implemented in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic, showing the cruelty of that extraterritorial policy by the United States towards the Caribbean country.
‘The Government of the DPRK strongly condemns the coercive measures of the United States against Cuba as a serious violation of the UN Charter and International Law, a violation of sovereignty and a crime against humanity,’ the document said.
