Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO’s head of Epidemiology, explained that the Lambda variant -detected for the first time in Peru- now is present in more than 40 nations and is only a Variant of Interest.
The WHO is still attentive to Lambda´s progress in terms of spread, transmission, lethality and other aspects related to the vaccines, said Van Kerkhove.
It is no less important, but we are at the stage of knowing much more about it, Van Kerkhove stated.
Delta variant is currently spreading around the world. It has a 30 to 60% of transmission higher than that of other variants. It carries a greater risk of hospitalization and reinfection, and generates slightly different symptoms, such as more intense headache, throat pain and deafness.
