IS´ heinous acts can constitute war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, said Guterres, while adding that it´s critical perpetrators are held accountable.

Through a statement released Tuesday by his spokesperson, Guterres stressed that thousands of Yazidis were subjected to unimaginable violence because of their identity.

As stressed by Guterres, it remains a top priority to support Iraq´s efforts to shield human rights, guarantee accountability and to ensure recovery and rehabilitation.

‘On this grim anniversary, the United Nations remains fully committed to supporting all efforts to achieve accountability and justice.’
